Expertise and qualifications

Having earned a living from writing between 2010 and 2018, and as a proofreader since 2018, I’m well versed in the importance of good communication. As a Professional Member of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (previously the Society for Editors and Proofreaders), I’m bound by their Code of Practice, and take professional standards seriously.

My areas of interest include travel, literary fiction, crime fiction, football, history (in particular piracy, the slave trade and the Age of Exploration – well, I did grow up near Bristol …) and religious traditions around the world. I have lived in Argentina since 2010, so if you’re writing or publishing something on Argentina or Latin America as a whole, I know the region.

I have hundreds of hours of experience proofreading texts on corporate social responsibility, sustainability, environment and social governance, and diversity and inclusion, including annual and interim reports for major companies.

I am bilingual in English and Spanish, and while I don’t proofread Spanish, if you have a text that’s been translated into English and want it looking over by someone familiar with the nuances of the original language, I’ll be happy to help. Similarly, if you’re a foreign-language speaker writing in English, you might want a revision from someone familiar with those little errors that even highly competent second-language speakers make. I’ll be sympathetic; I’ve been there myself, many times!

I’ve worked on books with UK sports publishers Pitch Publishing and Ockley Books, and regularly polish the English of articles and internal communications for the Féderation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG), as well as proofreading company annual reports and academic essays and articles.

Since October 2020, I have been a tutor on the Publishing Training Centre’s Essential Proofreading course.
